Car Paint Company

How do I remove marks from my car caused by car magnets?

I am a paramedic. I respond to emergency medical calls by my own car. The company I work for gave us magnets to put on our cars to show people that the car is an emergency vehicle. When I removed the magnets from the car to clean it, I noticed that there were marks left on the car where the magnets were placed. Now I cannot remove the marks when I wash the car. Has part of the magnet and dust melted onto the car paint or has it eaten away at the paint? How do I remove these marks?

  1. wax it. at least a couple of times it should come back. the paint faded around the magnet and the paint under should be good.
  2. I recommend that you use "Mothers California Clay Bar" it comes in a package with the necessary Showroom Shine compound and good clear instructions for it's use. Plan on cleaning the entire painted surface of the car and then follow the clay bar cleaning with a coat of high tech polymer based or Teflon based paint protector and polish. If you drop your clay bar on the ground - throw it away and buy another, the grit which the bar will pick up will destroy your paint. Period. No second chances.
  3. It depends on how bad the damage is. If it's just light a clay bar might be enough to rib the scratches out. If not you might actually have to get a very fine rubbing compund and buff the scratches off.
  4. Without seeing it I can only assume that this is the problem: The sun and environment has faded the rest of the paint a little and the paint under the magnet stays out of the sun and elements, therefore leaving a ghost effect on the paint. Wax won't do anything. You might want to try a polish but from my experience that won't help much. Your best bet is to just leave it off and hope that it will fade to match the rest of the car in a few years.
