Car paint help! How can you tell how many times and how recently a part of a car has been painted?

Car paint help! How can you tell how many times and how recently a part of a car has been painted? A body shop that worked on my car peeled off my clear coat and they're trying to say that it was because of a previous paint job that was done (I've had the car for 5 years- no paint work!) They are flat out lying and I need a way to prove that they peeled off the clearcoat themselves whilst "roping" around the windows, peeling off their own clearcoat as they ripped off the tape. I've had this car for 5 years with NO peeling anywhere- and suddenly, I now have 2 dollar-bill sized chunks missing on the side of my car they worked on.....is there a lab or a paint company I can take this to for analysis? I heard that there is a machine that can tell how many times a car has been painted...Please help!

1. any good panel shop will analyse whats been butchered....get 3 opinions
2. You can look inside the cr door jam and see if the colors are the same as the outside of your car.
