How do you remove gasoline residue from car paint?

I had adhesive from masking tape on my car door and I was told gasoline would remove it without taking off the paint. So I used it and it worked well, but the next day I noticed a white residue all over my door from the gas. It has come off from scrubbing it with a microfiber towel alright, but does anyone know a better way to take it off? Thanks for the help.

1. you shoulda just went to a car wash lol. dont use gasoline
2. If it won't wash off, use polish.
